About By Louise
Head designer Louise Flanders has been working with wire for
the last 11 years. She used to work with clay to relax between
flights as one of BA’s Cabin Crew. She became frustrated by the
time constraints that working with clay imposed and the lack of
opportunity to change her work once finished. She stumbled
upon wire while trying to improve a teapot commission. She first
started to hand-make greetings cards and then began to supply
regional hotels and restaurants with table decorations that
enhanced the dining experience.
She then began to research the market and saw that the amount
of artists working in wire was limited, and she wanted to be at
the forefront of a new and exciting medium.
By Louise was formed 3 years ago with the aim to be one of the
leading wire-work design houses and manufacturers, that hand
produces all of its work.
Today we are supplying such well known brands as Center Parcs
and the Hilton Hotel Chain, becoming a key supplier to many
industries as well as offering consumers a different gift option.
Louise says “Ever since I was a little girl I have had the desire to make
things. Clothes for my dolls and presents for all the family – like many
girls. Even with growing up and starting to work my love of making
things in new and different ways has continued and my enjoyment
remains the same.
On a holiday to St. Ives a few years ago I went into a bead shop and
became inspired by all the lovely colours and shapes of the beads, two
hours later I left with a DIY book on jewellery making. Although I
loved making the jewellery I loathed making the clasps. Without the
clasps I was left with beads and some jewellery wire. A friend’s
birthday was coming up and I decided to make her a card, the beads
threaded through the wire easily and the wire was pliable and went
into any outline shape my pencil could draw.
From that moment on I started to develop my wire-work. The
permanency of the image once made is strong, it stays in shape
making glueing and sticking easy. The options are endless I continually
find new and different ways of wire-working. I love the simplicity and
elegancy of the wirework, making images as complicated as I like and
by just changing the colour of the beads and wire the wirework can
take on so many different themes. Wire-work is beautifully simple and
easily understood – once you know how!” |
